In May this year technical specialists, researchers and operators involved in Electrical Steelmaking gathered in Milan (Italy). They could enjoy a 3-day program packed with lots of parallel presentations on everything related to electrical steelmaking.
This year's program covered high-level contributions about the long-term development of the steel industry in Europe and on a global scale, but also specific topics such as load cells and devices to measure slag composition were presented. Speakers were from academic insitutions digging deep into processes using finite element simulations and small-scale experiments in lab-size arc furnaces. Also suppliers came to present their offering, or insights gathered in some of their applications.
Zensor's contribution this time was a talk by it's CEO Yves Van Ingelgem who showcased some experiences related to our approach for in-line quantification of the amount of Hot Heel in the EAF vessel. Our experience to date shows that the same data, acquired using accelerometers and inclinometers, also bears the potential to shed light on other quantities and processes taking place inside the vessel. It seems we'e only scratching the surface.
There was also some room to get to know the other participants a bit better during the Conference Dinner, taking place in the beautiful "MUSEO NAZIONALE SCIENZA E TECNOLOGIA LEONARDO DA VINCI", a joy to visit in the highttime.
Looking forward to the next edition, but right now first digesting al that newly acquired knowledge!
