What we don't do: Part 1

Sometimes explaining this, helps in understanding better what we actually do...

We are not a “predictive maintenance” supplier. Why?

Because that is too narrow a concept. In reality most machines and installations are not used continuously in the same way. So the way they age isn’t linear, but function of their usage. Many failures also don’t result from gradual wear, but from unforeseen actions or conditions. It is therefore important to know what these actions or conditions are that lead to failure, identify them, and allow the user to react. The end result: prevent or minimize the damage.

      In practice we:

      • do not use runtime and maintenance records to predict when a next intervention is required
      • do not purely look at rotating equipment, but also at support structures, connections, slowly changing settings… the entire installation as a whole
      • do use sensor-based data, but certainly not only vibrations

Because limiting the scope to maintenance means missing out on a lot of additional wins for the site. In a manufacturing site the product quality as well as operational life of the installation have a massive impact on the revenue streams as well. At Zensor we also integrate these aspects in a monitoring tool for a dedicated asset, such that our clients can optimize the overall picture, not only the maintenance part.

Its summer time, so let’s do something different. This post is part of a series where we try to explain what we don’t do.

Why? After being flooded with Industry 4.0 marketing for many years, the swamp has become too deep. As a result a new swamp is being created: Industry 5.0 . As a result of all the floods, it is getting increasingly difficult for people to really understand what they need to make their life easier… and what solutions are available. Explaining what a tool doesn’t do can help clearing the mind, so we hope you’ll enjoy this series!
