A lot of fuzz is created these days with respect to Predictive Maintenance. Large marketing budgets are spent to spread the word on how it could change the production industry for good. The number of real applications with genuine, short-term, but also lasting added value is limited. During the recent 'Week Van De Ingenieur' (Week of the Engineer) in Belgium, organised by the local Engineering Guild, Zensor was asked to provide a number of examples from its collaborations with well-know production companies illustrating how smart data collection combined with advanced analytics is done 'for real'. Showing some insights from actual projects the audience learned that it doesn't suffice to make a small number of already smart people just a little smarter. In order to deliver all the potential of the 4th Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0), it is essential to make the insights gathered understandable to everyone within the origination. The way the insights arre portrayed and offered to the end users is almost as valuable as the results of the analysis themselves: when not applied, information is and remains useless.
