Who: Maarten, Yves, Tom

What: Introduce our new solution WindTurbineDoctor to the German onshore market

Where: Husum, Germany

When: September 12-15

Why: Conquer the German onshore wind market

We've participated in the bi-annual Husum Wind trade fair in Husum, Germany, the self-acclaimed Home of Wind. It was the first time we attended this particular event. The venue, the surrounding sheep roaming around, and the remote location in the heart of wind turbine land Dithmarschen were quite charming. These characteristics surely made the event stand out against other similar events we've been to before.

At the event we presented our German version of the WindTurbineDoctor; a modular, sensor-based solution that reduces the overall lifetime cost for wind turbine structures. We welcomed the visitors at our booth with fresh coffee and Belgian chocolates, while they received a demonstration of our WindTurbineDoctor dashboard. The flexibility and functionalities of our new end-to-end solution were highly appreciated by the audience. They particularly valued the compatibility between WindTurbineDoctor with SCADA systems and existing CMS solutions.

Highlights, results and lessons learned

On the second day of the event, the fairgrounds had to be temporarily closed down due to storm Sebastian. Nonetheless, the majority of the attendees and exhibitors returned the following day as if nothing happened. Moreover, the professionalism of the organisation during the evacuation of the show was remarkable. They made sure everything was taken care of in a safe manner. In addition to that, the Husum city centre served as the perfect place 'to hide' from the storm.

The feedback we received during these four days at the event were very positive. The visitors showed great interest in the WindTurbineDoctor dashboard. We learned that there’s a shift happening in the German energy politics; a shift from fixed feed-in tariffs to auction based projects, which results in cost cutting efforts. With the large number of ageing wind farms in Germany, the need for full scope, effective & cost-cutting monitoring solutions becomes apparent. Industry stakeholders like O&M operators, sensor manufacturers, wind farm owners, insurance companies can all benefit from these solutions that provide insight in the total life cycle. Asset management has never been so straight forward.
